The Oklahoma Family Legal Advocates logo is the first logo I designed when I started Melody Grace Designs.  I’m so thankful to Barbara and Susan, board members of OkFLA, for giving me a shot at designing a logo for such an amazing organization.  

OkFLA is a fledgling not-for-profit organization based in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  I had the wonderful privilege of helping this organization before they even received their not-for-profit status from the IRS (they are now a 501(c)(3) organization and if you would like to donate to them, your donation is tax-deductible!).

Anytime I design a logo, I take time to read about the organization.  What is its mission, its goals and how do they help the community?  I’ve found that only when I am invested and believe in the organization can I create something I love and the organization will love.  For OkFLA, it was not hard to get invested in their mission to reduce the number of children in foster care by providing free or low-cost legal and social support services for families involved in or at risk of being involved in the Oklahoma child welfare system.  Having worked in a non-profit that helped abused and neglected children, I understood the need for children to have safe and stable homes.

Thinking about their mission, I was able to come up with several tagline options for the organization and ultimately, they chose the tagline “Safe Children, Stable Families, Strong Communities.”  For their logo, I wanted to focus on what it means for a child to feel safe and secure.  And thus the idea of the little girl with a balloon came to mind.  If you have a child or remember being a child- no doubt getting a balloon is the highlight of any child’s day.  I was able to use a couple of friends of mine as the models for the silhouette and the logo was then created!
